We help relieve food emergencies of NIU Students . . . food insecurity should not be the result of seeking one's education.
The Huskies Student Food Pantry is located at 401 Normal Road, De Kalb, IL, in the Grace Place Campus Ministry building, across Lucinda Avenue from the NIU Holmes Student Center, at the heart of the NIU campus.
An NIU Student Population not challenged more by their food needs than by their education needs.
Many students do not qualify for food assistance programs, which is why this Food Pantry steps in. The Huskies STUDENT FOOD PANTRY is intended to and will provide non-perishable, supplemental food and other necessities for NIU Students in need of support.
Who is eligible?
ONLY Northern Illinois University (NIU) Students. Students must present a valid, current NIU Student ID Card.
NOTE: If you are a student living on campus and have a meal plan
you DO NOT qualify to use the Pantry.
Empathetic ALUMNI comment:
"I so wish they had had this when I was there at NIU. I had a full time job when I started at NIU that I quit after my first week of classes when I realized there was no way I could fully commit to both.
I was lucky have a lot of help from my parents but I was responsible for the living aspect of college life: food, gas, utilities, rent . . .
I remember many, many days of trying to befriend friends of friends that got federal assistance and therefore had food credits and husky bucks. I'm sure I was not alone in the struggle that, ironic from my family's affluence in my push towards my independence, caused me to live a financially chaotic and food insecure few years."
